WEST WILTS YOUTH SAILING ASSOCIATION

OUR CLUB

We are a charitable trust, based at a lake in Westbury, Wiltshire and our primary aim is to introduce young people between the ages of 8 and 18 to the sport of sailing.

Starting in 1967 we had just three boats and a group of keen volunteers. Forty years on we now have 19 boats, two safety boats and a team of RYA qualified instructors so are able to offer sailing tuition to approximately 100 children per week throughout our season. The association is self financing and run completely by volunteers.

We are a Royal Yachting Association recognised teaching centre and would love to teach you how to sail.

RADIO CONTROL MODEL YACHTING

Within WWYSA we have an active and friendly radio control model yachting club that normally meets at 2pm on Thursday afternoons and 10am on Saturday mornings. The focus is on series racing and the primary yacht classes are the affordable Dragonforce 65 (DF65) and RG65 yachts.

A large sailing area allows a wide variety of buoyed courses to be set out to suit the wind conditions of the day. In the large club foreshore and headland areas we have a choice of control positions from which to sail.

Should the weather be poor the superb new clubhouse provides the possibilities for tea, talk and shelter, although the weather rarely prevents sailing completely.

Trophies are presented at the end of each season to the winners of the four keenly fought race series, and year- round sailing is the norm with an informal frostbite series for the hardy during the winter.

Non racers are welcome just to sail and enjoy the scenery the location provides and, although the DF65 and RG65 are the preferred types for racing, other craft can be sailed.
